Fell walking
Fell walking (not to be confused with rambling) is free to all in
the Lakes. There is a wide range of fells and crags to test you
on, but beware, the high peaks are not for beginners or inexperienced
walkers so take advice on routes and appropriate equipment. There
are many good books on fell walking, none more famous than those
by Alfred Wainright (AW), that offer advice on some challenging
and scenic routes.

Golf
There are several good quality courses within the national park
from Penrith and Keswick in the north to Kendal and Ulverston in
the south. In the far north west of Cumbria there is Silloth-on-Solway, which is one of the finest links courses in the country
(not for the faint hearted on a windy day).
Windermere
golf club is just up the road from the Waverley and offers some
superb golf as well as stunning views across the lake and the fells
beyond.

Fishing
The Lakes are famous for fishing waters and the Windermere and
Ambleside District Anglers Association have some of the finest.
Both game and course fishing can be enjoyed within easy reach of
the Waverley.A day or weekly permit can be bought from the post
office in Windermere and then the choice is yours.
Freezer
space is available for bait or your catch if you are successful.
If you would like to have your freshly caught trout for dinner,
Alison will be more than happy to cook your catch for you. At right
is Waveley regular Tony Smith with a Grasmere pike.
